Work in progress in Timbuktu

AMALIA has launched the project of manuscript preservation at the Al Aqib library. A challenging start, which required a lot of preparation and care.

We have sent the heaviest and oversize preservation materials and equipment to Timbuktu with a special shipment; other materials and small equipment were brought in person by Ibrahim Nalion and Maria Luisa Russo. In Bamako and Timbuktu we started the training sessions, and we are pleased to show you the first photos of the project in its full operation: the conservation laboratory and the activities in the library.

The president’s trip from Bamako to Timbuktu was possible thanks to the support of the United Nations: UNHAS for the flight and MINUSMA for accommodation and security support in the city. We thank them for such support.
